Opt to Adopt | Visit Your Local Shelter or Rescue
September 23, 2021As a pet parent, you know how important it is to remember your pets on special days. You might have even celebrated their birthday or bought them a gift for Christmas. But did you know that there are many animals in need of homes? In an effort to help these animals find loving homes, “Remember Me Thursday” was started."
Remember Me Thursday was created Mike Arms the president of the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Mr. Arms created the extremely moving Remember Me Thursday global awareness campaign in 2012, which encourages individuals to light a candle (literally or virtually), and help promote awareness about adoption. He asks people to share the message in their network on the fourth Thursday of September, every year.
This year is the day when people around the world will post photos of themselves with their adopted animal and share their stories about why they chose adoption, and light a candle for the animals still in shelters waiting for their fur-ever home.
Opt To Adopt
By opting to adopt you help save so many animals' lives!
Every year, U.S. animal shelters admit approximately 7.6 million pets, and of that number, 2.7 million are euthanized.
So when you adopt a dog, not only are you providing your dog with a new home, you are also freeing up additional space and resources for the remaining shelter animals. You'll also be helping to put an end to puppy mills and inspiring others to do the same. All of this means that with just one adoption, you can make a difference in several animals' lives!
Ways to Adopt
Instead of going to the local pet store and buying a cute little puppy, go visit a local shelter or rescue. As mentioned above, over 7 million pets end up in shelters or rescues every year.
Which Pet Is Right for You?
Your personality and lifestyle, along with challenges such as space restrictions and amount of time spent at home, should be explored to determine what pet is right for your household. Research different breeds and ask shelter staff for guidance; they're experts at making perfect matches!
Are You Ready to Adopt?
When adopting, you are making a commitment to love and care for an animal for the rest of his life. That could mean 10 to 15 years for dogs and up to 20 years for cats. Are you ready for that?
As you go through lifestyle changes such as moves, the birth of children and new jobs, your animal will remain a permanent part of your life. If circumstances change, these are all things you need to consider before adopting any pet.
Give Them Salmon Oil Supplement
It seems like everyone is recommending salmon oil to dog owners seeking ways to keep their pets healthy. The supplement has become one of the most important and popular nutritional supplements for dogs in just a few years. Salmon oil keeps your dog's coat and skin healthy, shiny, and itch-free. Research has shown that it is safe for use on adult dogs as well as puppies. There are also many beneficial side effects associated with it.
